If a child is in danger right now, call 999.
Students can talk to someone free, any time: Childline on 0800 1111 or childline.org.uk, or text SHOUT to 85258. Parents worried about a child can call the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.
1. Our commitment
Gravity & Vector Academy teaches GCSE students, most of them aged 15 or 16. Their safety and wellbeing come before everything else we do. We follow the principles of the UK government guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children, adapted for an online revision service.
Our safeguarding lead is Mr Khaled Azad, the founder. Contact: hello@gravityandvector.co.uk with "Safeguarding" in the subject line.
2. How the platform is designed to be safe
- No student-to-student contact. There are no private messages, chats or friend lists between students.
- Ask Sir is moderated. Questions are checked before other members can see them. Anything with personal details, links, contact details or unkind content is kept private, so only the student and Sir can see it. Students are shown by a nickname, never their full name.
- Prof G is an AI, and says so. It only helps with science. It never asks for personal details, photos of students or contact information, and won't take conversations off the platform.
- Automatic safety checks. Every message to Prof G and every Ask Sir question is screened by a safety check, plus a second check on Prof G's own replies. These checks look for signs of risk such as self-harm, abuse, neglect, bullying, grooming or threats.
- Chats aren't secret. Students are told that Prof G conversations are stored and can be read by Mr Azad. We never promise a student that something they tell us will be kept secret.
- Sign-up is by parents. Accounts and free trials are created with a parent or carer's email, and parents get progress reports.
3. What happens when something worrying comes up
- The student is immediately shown a kind, fixed support message pointing them to a trusted adult, Childline, Shout and 999. Prof G stops the lesson and doesn't ask probing questions.
- The message is flagged to Mr Azad. We aim to review every flag within 24 hours, and urgent flags as soon as we see them.
- A person, not the AI, decides what to do next. Depending on the concern, that may mean contacting the parent or carer, telling the student's school (if we know it), or contacting children's social care or the police. If a child is in immediate danger, we call 999.
- We keep a confidential record of the concern and what we did.
If the concern is about a parent or carer, we won't contact them first; we'll go to the appropriate authorities instead.
4. Live lessons
- Live group lessons run on Zoom with a waiting room. Students join with a first name or nickname only.
- Lessons are for teaching only. Staff never contact students one-to-one on personal phones or social media.
5. Raising a concern
If you're a parent, carer, teacher or student and you're worried about a child's safety, or about anything that happened on our platform, email hello@gravityandvector.co.uk with "Safeguarding" in the subject. Tell us as much as you can. If a child is at immediate risk, call 999 first.
If you're unhappy with how we responded, you can contact your local council's children's services or the NSPCC.
6. Data and privacy
Safeguarding records are confidential and shared only when needed to keep a child safe, as the law allows. See our privacy policy for how we handle information.
7. Review
We review this policy at least once a year, and after any serious incident.
